to Camp McCumber
Day 1 of my motorcycle adventure to Alaska. Bike is loaded and ready for the road. Tasty tacos for lunch in roasting hot temps. First destination: McCumber Lake near Lassen National Park.

Detours, friendly neighbors, and room for improvement.
Following a slight route detour due to fire damage and closed roads resulting from the Park Fire that devastated the small town of Paradise, California, I arrived at this lovely little campsite north of Lassen National Park.
My friendly camp neighbor stocked me up with much needed kindling for my fire and a little extra to spare.
The big 'day one' realization for me was the time involved setting up and breaking down camp. This is a pretty common issue, and I didn't practice this before the trip. It was a mildly annoying factor for a week or so as I optimized the the inflow and outflow of gear from my bike. Space is tight on a motorcycle, so there's not a lot that can be done, but I eventually created a reasonable process.
